Diaper Cake

Last week I threw a baby shower for my friend, and I made my very first diaper cake! I copied it from a tutorial on a blog (Thanks Julie for putting the link to homemade by Jill :). It was fun but a lot of work!

Potty Mouth and Poison Control

Joshua is learning things left and right these days. He knows lots of animal sounds, like cow, dog, lion, and even sheep, it's pretty fun! The other day I was in the kitchen and I dropped something on the floor and said, "Oh, Crap!" Joshua was standing next to me and he looked up with a big smile and yelled, "BAP!" Then I could just picture it: Joshua standing on the pew in sacrament yelling "Crap!" over and over again. I guess we better start watching what we say a little more carefully!

I use vaseline every night to keep my lips from getting chapped. I love the stuff. But the other day I was making lunch for Joshua and when he didn't come running into the kitchen I knew he was up to something. I found him in our bedroom with the bottle in one hand, and his other hand holding a huge glob of vaseline. It was smeared all over his nose and mouth too. At first I thought it was kinda funny, but then I read the label on the bottle: "If ingested contact poison control immediately". oh jeez. So then I did freak out a little, but the poison control lady was very nice and she told me that it is not toxic and that the worst that could happen would be diarrhea.

Then yesterday I was playing with Joshua and he was chasing after a ball when he tripped and hit his mouth on his changing table. He left big teeth marks in it and wouldn't stop crying for some time. So when I looked in his mouth, one of his front teeth was pushed back and down! So we took an unexpected trip to the dentist that afternoon. The dentist said that his tooth will turn gray and could potentially fall out. He's at risk for an abcess from now until it does fall out around age 6 or 7, and if he does get an infection they will pull the tooth.

I know we are so lucky that it wasn't worse. He could have bit through his lip or pushed the tooth up and damaged the permanent tooth... But I guess the vain part of myself is a little sad that my sweet little boy is going to have a big gray tooth now and there's nothing I can do about it!

Halloween Fun

This Halloween was great! We went to a pumpkin patch in Carnation and picked out our own pumpkin to carve.

We Also had a few friends over for a Halloween dinner. On the menu was a Papa Murphy's "Jack-O-Lantern" Pizza, some Bones (breadsticks)....

Frankenstein cupcakes and some rice krispie treats! Normally I'm not that crafty but my mom bought us a fun halloween cookbook with lots of great ideas.


At the pumpkin patch we got to ride in a wagon driven by a tractor through really deep and squishy mud. It was a cold day but the sun was out and we really enjoyed the little outing with Joshua and my parents.


Joshua was a cowboy for Halloween this year. I was so disappointed that he wouldn't wear the hat that came with the costume but it was pretty cute anyway! We took him to our ward's trunk-or-treat, and he loved seeing no, not all the costumes and decorations...just the CARS!

Birthdays, Blessings and Broken Thermometers

This last month has been a busy one for sure! First of all...I think I may have pinned down the reason Joshua's thermometer stopped working...as you can see in the first picture! We also were able to celebrate birthdays for both Eric and myself. Eric turned 26 and I'm 25.
When I was a teenager I would think about my future...who I'd marry and what job I would have..children, etc. But I never really thought about life after 25...that was just TOO OLD to comprehend! haha well now that my frontal cortex is completely developed I can see that 25 isn't really old, but I certainly feel it sometimes!
For our birthdays, we went and saw "Wicked" at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, and stayed the night in a hotel (away from Joshua for the first time since he came home)! The show was really great, even though we had just about the worst seats in the house. Even though I missed Joshua a lot, it was good to have some time away.
On September 3rd, our nephew Evan was born. So this last weekend we went to Idaho Falls for his blessing. It was great to see the family!
Joshua played well with our niece Hailey, who is 2. He even tried to give her a hug (which to him is laying his head on her shoulder).
Joshua is learning so fast, it's hard to believe. He has learned how to say: Yes, No, Yuck, Woof! , Boat, Ball, and his most favorite word and thing in the world : Car.
Our bedroom window has a lovely view of Newport Way, a very busy street. Joshua's favorite thing is to stand on our bed and look out the window at all the cars. He'll stand there watching the cars pass for 15 minutes easily and say "car! car! car!" over and over. I never thought I'd be thankful for living on a busy street.
Conference weekend was also Salmon Days here in Issaquah. We live down the street from a salmon hatchery and they have a big celebration every Fall when the salmon come to spawn. They had a parade and we got to put Joshua in his "A Christmas Story" Coat :)but he really can move his arms... a little.
