Joshua, I have one question: Do you like your carrots???

The last few weeks have been exhausting! It all started one night Joshua was awake ALL night screaming- he was inconsolable- which is unlike him so it made me worried. Then he started wheezing and having difficulty breathing so I took him to the doctor and he had to get oral steriods and albuterol (a medicine for asthma). It was really upsetting to see him like that! His pediatrician said Joshua also had an ear infection and was put on antibiotics for that. Anyways, long story short I had to take him to the doctor every day for the next 3 days because he was still having a hard time, despite getting albuterol through an inhaler every 4 hours. I'm thinking he has a "reactive airway", which is not uncommon in preemies since their lungs weren't fully developed at birth. Basically when he gets a cold, his airways constrict and have problems similar to someone with asthma...but the only way to know is to see what happens the next time he gets sick.

Joshua is doing much better now, but of course now he is getting his two front top teeth so he's still up all night! He is getting pretty good at sitting up and I had fun tonight taking pictures of him in his Huskies' outfit - Go Dawgs!

Called to Serve....

In the Primary!! Eric and I were called to teach the 11 year-olds in primary a few weeks ago. It's proved to be quite a challenging class...there's 8 kids! It can be fun at times, but most of the time we spend just trying to get their attention. We've tried playing games, offering positive incentives...class parties, food, etc and nothing seems to have any effect. If anyone has any ideas, we'd LOVE to hear them...we're desperate!! :)

I just started teaching nursing assistant students at Lake Washington Technical College. It's really great because it's just Mon-Thurs from 10-12, so I'm not away from Joshua too long. Eric's mom and my sister help watch Joshua, which is so wonderful because we all know no one takes care of your baby like a Grandma and Auntie! So far, I really like the job. I've been thinking of getting into teaching but was having a hard time finding anything that didn't require too much time. Basically, the students have to learn skills in their scope of practice (bed baths, taking vital signs, etc) and my job is to teach them and test them so they can pass the state exam and be licensed.
